 L.C. Fowler 

L.C. Fowler, over his impressive career, spent 29 of his 34 years coaching at Hamilton High School, one year at Marion County High School in Guin, and briefly at Carbon Hill and Pickens County High Schools.

Fowler was born in Sulligent and was a graduate of Sulligent High School where he was a star football player earning All-State honors. Fowler played in the 1954 Alabama All-Star game in Tuscaloosa. He also played baseball and basketball in high school.

Fowler would receive a scholarship to play football at Auburn University in 1954 and later transferred to Florence State Teachers College, now known as the University of North Alabama, because he wanted to play. He was named as a team captain his senior year of college and was a letterman in 1957 and 1959.

He took over as the head coach at Marion County in 1959 where he spent two season followed by two years at Pickens County High School and three at Carbon Hill. Fowler would take the head coaching position at Hamilton in 1966 where he remained until his retirement after the 1979 season.

Fowlers 14 year record at Hamilton was 83-54-4. He led the Aggies to two playoff appearances and won an area title in 1978 with a perfect 10-0 regular season.

He also compiled a career record of 206-131-23 in football, was named West Alabama Conference Coach of the Year four times, and coached in two Alabama All-Star games.

Fowler is a member of the Marion and Lamar County Sports Halls of Fame. He was inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame at the Montgomery Civic Center, Montgomery, Alabama, on March 20, 2000.
